Our Staff

Of course our staff have all of the qualifications and training you would expect from a care home for the elderly (and which indeed are required by the regulations) including appropriate and sympathetic caring for residents who live with dementia or Alzheimer's. We believe that Springfield Care Home is a satisfying place to work as turnover is low and many of our carers have been with us for years. So residents get to know our staff well and to ask for them by name. This is important in helping us to make the home feel like a "big happy family" environment.

Carolann (Deputy Manager) and Carole (Manager)

"I have worked at here since 1992, starting as a care assistant. In 2001 I was appointed as manager. I achieved my RMA (Registered Managers' Award) in 2005. (I am now updating my qualification to NVQ5, which has replaced the RMA). I thoroughly enjoy working at Springfield and find it very satisfying. That's why I've been here so long. I care a lot about the residents' happiness and well-being and the most rewarding thing is to receive a big smile at the end of a long day. My motto when training my staff is: "To be a good carer you need to care".

When I have free time (not often) I like to spend evenings and weekends out walking with the dogs. I own two Labradors, one chocolate and one golden. My annual holidays are spent in Devon or Dorset, taking long walks. I also enjoy gardening, reading and spending time with my grandchildren."

Carolann Shepherd, Deputy Manger

"I am Deputy Manager at Springfield Care Home. I trained as a secretary but felt I wanted to do something completely different. I started at Springfield in 2001 and worked my way up to my present position. I was awarded my NVQ 3 in 2005. I am now updating my qualification to NVQ5. I love my job. I feel there is nothing more worthwhile that being able to help someone else. My hobbies are reading and painting in oils and water colours. That's when I can find the time!"
